FAQ's & GOOD THINGS TO KNOW
GENERAL NEW ORLEANS TIPS
- THE SIDEWALKS HERE ARE CRAY: Watch where you walk, and be careful! The fact that NOLA is below sea level, old, and generally infamous for infrastructure issues...means the sidewalks aren't great. They are uneven, bumpy, and tripping hazards waiting to happen. As much as we want to tell you to look up at the lovely historic city around you...also look down! Watch your step! Wear comfy shoes if you plan on walking a lot!
- "I BET I CAN TELL YOU WHERE YOU GOT THEM SHOES" - you are most likely to encounter someone saying this to you in the French Quarter. They will try to bet you $20. Ignore them. Don't fall for it. And tell them "I GOT THEM ON MY FEET!" Bam. Hustle ruined. Also if anyone tries to clean your shoes they will also then demand $20 from you after...so generally we recommend keeping people away from your shoes. lol
- CAFE DU MONDE (in the French Quarter) IS CASH ONLY - we're sure a ton of you will want to grab some beignets, so just keep this in mind! Also - the to-go window closer to the river side usually has a much shorter line than the line to sit at a table.
WHAT WILL THE WEATHER BE LIKE?
- We're not quite sure yet! It most likely won't be hot. In the past during this part of March it's been in the 40's/50's, and it's also been in the 60's/70's. At this point in time, we would at least recommend planning for light layers + a jacket in the evenings, and keeping an eye on the weather as the date gets closer.
WHERE SHOULD I STAY?
Check out our "Travel" tab for hotel recommendations! While our room block has been filled at the Hotel Peter and Paul, we do also have a block at the Virgin Hotel, which is one of the newer hotels in the city, and very well-located! If you need some help deciding between a few options, just ask us! We're happy to offer up advice. We know the hotels are getting pricier as we get closer to the date - unfortunately, that's just the nature of hotel bookings. If you don't mind a bit of a risk, we've sometimes had good luck booking last minute/affordable hotel stays through Hotel Tonight - so that's another option if you're like us and like to travel on a whim, haha.
HOW DO I GET AROUND THE CITY?
- WALKING - The city is quite walkable - especially if you're staying in the French Quarter, the Marigny (near our venue), the CBD, and the Warehouse District. The Garden District is more residential but walkable too - especially near Magazine Street. During your trip, the farthest distances you may want to travel are between the French Quarter and Garden District (see recommendations below), or if you're planning to visit City Park, the Botanical Gardens, or Longuevue House. For those locations you're better of taking an Uber! See bullet #3.
- STREETCAR - For a bit more of a "New Orleans" experience - you can hop on the streetcar. The St. Charles line (operated by RTA) runs along St. Charles from the edge of the quarter (Canal Street) past the Garden District/Uptown areas. Each ride is $1.25 per person ($0.40 for Seniors 65+) and can be paid for in exact change upon boarding or via the "Le Pass" app on your phone. Click here to download. We love the views of the old, historic mansions when taking the streetcar uptown, and highly recommend riding it just for that! It's a great way to get from the French Quarter to the Garden District, and vice-versa. The houses along St. Charles get more "grand" the closer you get to Audubon Park and the Tulane/Loyola campuses.
- UBER/LYFT - Always a good option to get pretty much everywhere if you don't feel like walking! The city is not huge. Aside from your ride from the airport, the most you'll likely spend on an Uber to get to the "farthest" destination is maybe $15-20.
HOW DO I GET TO THE WEDDING?
If you're not staying at the Peter and Paul - we recommend Ubering! Even if you're staying in the French Quarter, we still recommend Ubering since fancy heels + dresses don't pair well with the sidewalks between the two neighborhoods.
ARE CHILDREN ALLOWED AT THE WEDDING?
We love your kids so much! But our venues for the Wedding Day and for our Welcome Drinks are "Adults-Only." Reach out to us if you need babysitting recommendations, as a few of our vendors have recommended some good ones!
BLACK TIE...REALLY?
Yas! This moment is like 10 years in the making, guys! Let us have our fun! Be fancy with us!
IF YOU COULD ONLY CHOOSE THREE EXTRA THINGS TO DO IN THE CITY THAT WEEKEND...WHAT WOULD THEY BE?
A night-time ghost tour of the French Quarter. Stroll through the Garden District. Catch some live jazz.
